Post-transplant Supportive Care
During this last stage of your hospitalization, we watch for and manage transplant-related complications such as infections, bleeding, kidney problems, liver problems, lung problems, heart problems, graft-versus-host disease, as well as other less common events. You will likely develop a fever which will necessitate you being started on intravenous antibiotics. You will also likely require transfusions of blood products such as red blood cells and platelets. We generally try to keep your hematocrit greater than 25 and your platelet count greater than 10 in order to minimize bleeding. During various parts of your treatment program, you may occasionally experience certain side effects or problems. Click here to obtain detailed information about each problem and what you can do to minimize the impact of each problem on your life. Every person is unique and what helps one patients may not help another. We encourage you to read this information and then discuss what you have read with our staff before acting on this or any other information that you read.
