Pre-transplant Donor Evaluation

 

Because a stem cell transplant involves the administration of high doses of chemotherapy and/or total body irradiation, you will be rescued with stem cells from a suitable donor. Your donor must undergo testing of their blood to ensure that they are healthy and have the appropriate tissue type. Below you will find a comprehensive list of tests which will be done as part of the donor pre-transplant evaluation.

 

1. Lab evaluation:

a) Hematology:

CBC with differential

PT/INR/PTT

ABO group and Rh type and antibody screen

b) Chemistry:

Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate

Glucose

Calcium, Albumin

Magnesium

Phosphate

BUN, Creatinine

Total Bilirubin (direct and indirect if total bilirubin is elevated)

Alkaline Phosphatase

AST, ALT

Total Protein

LDH, Uric Acid

c) Serology: (must be documented within 30 days prior to first day of stem cell collection)

Cytomegalovirus serology (*Anti-CMV IgG)

Herpes simplex virus serology (HSV I & II)

Varicella zoster virus (VZV) serology

HIV serology (*Anti-HIV-1, *Anti-HIV-2)

*HIV-1 Antigen

*Anti-HTLV 1 and 2

Serologic test for syphylis:

*RPR

Hepatitis A:

Anti-HAV IgM and IgG

Hepatitis B:

*HbsAg - surface antigen

*Anti-HBc

Anti-HBs - surface antibody

Hepatitis C:

*Anti-HCV

d) Pregnancy test (performed on all women of child-bearing potential)

e) HLA-typing (A, B, DR)

f) Pulmonary assessment:

CXR- PA, Lat
