High Dose Chemotherapy
In order to destroy the cancer cells in your body, you will be given very high doses of chemotherapy. Typically , you will receive 1-4 different chemotherapy drugs. The number and types of drugs that you receive will depend on what type of cancer you have. We generally, allow 24-72 hours for the chemotherapy to clear from your body before infusing the stem cells. The amount of time between your last dose of chemotherapy and your transplant is determined by what drugs you receive.
You will also receive other medications before, during, and after your high dose chemotherapy in order to minimize side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, and changes in blood pressure.
